Liam Fissell (he/she/they) is a composer and improviser captivated by musical dialogue between the human and the machine. She fosters earnest conversations with rusty automatons and scratchy cassette decks. By capturing fragility in her music, Liam hopes to emphasize the beauty she finds in decay, for, as Rumi wrote, Life’s water flows from darkness. At this very moment, she is performing final revisions on her new piece, be safe or whatever, to be premiered on November 17th.
Liam has studied for many summers at The Walden School, where his work has been premiered by members of the International Contemporary Ensemble, TAK ensemble, Friction Quartet, and the Walden School Players. Now, he works towards dual degrees in Math and Technology in Music and Related Arts at Oberlin College and Conservatory. Additionally, they one day hope to transform a 1997 Nissan Pathfinder into a literal “vehicle” for multimedia improvisation.
